Mountain Community Coalition

501(c)(3)

Mountain Community Coalition, a 501 (c)(3) Nonprofit, was formed in 2024 in the beautiful mountain community of Florissant, Colorado. Our Nonprofit works to serve everyone in Teller County and beyond, offering many fun and challenging activities for all ages, groups, and abilities.

Our Mission Statement: “We are on inclusive community organization that is resilient, motivated, and focused on educating and improving others with opportunities and resources, to achieve a healthy and robust natural and cultural environment.”

Mountain Community Coalition (MoCoCo) was formed as the Umbrella Corporation, which incorporates several subsidiaries focusing on specific needs identified within the communities. Currently, there are three subsidiaries operating under the umbrella. North Florissant Fire Mitigation Posse (NoFloCo) an all-volunteer Fire Mitigation - Home Hardening group, established in 2019; Florissant Live Arts, Music, and Entertainment (FLAME) which has held game nights, a summer Volksmarch, and plans to bring arts, music, and various entertainment events to the mountain area, formed in 2024; and Mountain Community Solidarians (MoCoSo) a helping-hands - handyman group that will provide assistance for disabled veterans, elderly couples with mobility issues, widowers, and families with small children, formed in 2025. Our program will be expanded as we move forward with additional subsidiaries planned in the coming years.

A brief history of NoFloCo – North Florissant, Colorado

Don and Toni Moore of Indian Creek Subdivision started the grassroots, all volunteer, fire mitigation organization October of 2019 with the help of Indian Creek Property Owners Association.

As part of the Colorado Forest-Ag Management Program, they have been fire mitigating their property since 2005. "Folks who visit us know something is different about our property, but they cannot always put their finger on what," says Don Moore. "When we point out that all the ladder fuel (dead lower branches and other debris in the understory) has been removed, the questions start. People want to know why we have done it, and how we did it."

Realizing there was a desire for hands-on learning about fire mitigation to improve and protect private property and enhance forest health, Moore put together what he now calls NoFloCo (North Florissant, Colorado) Fire Mitigation Posse. "Our volunteers learn pretty quickly that it is not complicated, and can be very satisfying and fun. We grow with each event; time in the forest working with others is addictive," said Moore.

The NoFloCo Fire Mitigation Posse has been a quick and overwhelming success. They see new faces and more volunteers at each event. Approximately four acres of heavily forested property is mitigated and more than 2 cords of firewood is harvested and delivered to neighbors for free at each workday. Not only has the group gained momentum in their efforts, but CORE Electric Association, numerous state representatives, and Govenor Jared Polis have recognized and praised the work of the group.

In March of this year, NoFloCo and Don Moore was awarded the 2025 International Wildland Mitigation Award for their tremendous work mitigating and improving forest health on private property in central Colorado This award was established in 2014 by the National Association of State Foresters, National Fire Protection Association, USDA Forest Service, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, in response to the need to recognize the large number of great wildfire mitigation programs and projects that are making a difference on the ground in the United States today. The Wildfire Mitigation Award is the highest international honor one can receive for outstanding work and significant program impact in wildfire preparedness and mitigation.

A brief history of Flame – Florissant Live Arts, Music, and Entertainment

Our Flame program of bringing Arts, Music, and Entertainment to our communities is planned to be very diverse. This will allow our citizens to attend events they know and love, and other events that will be new and exciting! Music events with local bands are currently being planned, with interstate and national bands planned for 2026.

Board Game Tournaments to see who can reign as the Grand Champion in games such as Yahtzee, Trivial Pursuit, Mexican Train and Left- Right-Center will be held during the cold months to allow for bragging rights for a few winners, comradery among the teams, and warm hearts for all participants during the cold months of January, February, and March.

Spring, Summer, and Fall will bring outdoor events for all ages. Stay tuned and watch for our calendar of events!

A brief history of MoCoSo - Mountain Community Solidarians

MoCoSo was formed in August of 2025 and is in the early stages of being activated. This volunteer group will serve and assist neighbors with projects making their lives safer and easier, and working to improve the curb appeal of the home or property on a case-by-case basis.

NoFloCo helps with fire mitigation on private property and MoCoSo will focus on hardening homes against approaching wild fire embers, clearing debris and hazardous materials, removing old appliances and other hard to dispose of items, repairing/replacing hand rails inside or outside the home to ensure personal safety, installing/replacing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, light fixtures, and smaller problematic plumbing to improve the comfort of home owners to name just a few items.

MoCoCo is guided by a deep commitment to improving citizens lives throughout the area, fostering relationships, and building stronger and safer communities, all while having fun.
